When hiring a car, you are basically hiring thousands of pounds worth of equipment to drive around on unknown roads so the likelihood of having an accident is always higher than if you were to drive around in your own vehicle. With this in mind you need to ensure that you are extra careful throughout the whole process as having an accident is one thing, but having to fork out hundreds or thousands of pounds in repairs can be devastating, especially if on holiday. You need to obtain the appropriate insurance when getting your car hire.
When you come to book your vehicle you need to ensure that you read every detail in the policy, this will be available on the website for you to see. When you arrive to pick your car up, you need to make sure that it is the car you ordered as they will sometimes try to provide you with a cheaper model if they are out of stock. If this is the case then you can be entitled to an upgrade depending on your policy.
Check your petrol situation, what does your policy say, how much is in it now and how much do you need in it when you return the vehicle?
If you plan to take your car off road, or into another country then make sure you have the appropriate insurance or that your car hire policy allows you to.

Although it sounds ridiculous, when it comes to a car size matters and when it comes to rental cars, size can matter even more. Although people usually took it for granted that driving around town in a larger vehicle was safer, there wasn’t really any evidence for why it was except that your vehicle was larger than the other vehicles on the road.
This works most of the time, except it begs the question, what happens when your large vehicle comes into contact with another large vehicle? The Highway Loss Data Institute which has been compiling crash test data for over 20 years recently came out with a report that found how much less likely drivers were to be involved in a fatal car crash when they were driving what was classified as a “large” vehicle and how much more likely they were when they were driving a small either compact or sub compact vehicle.
